Step by Step Installation Process of an Asphalt Driveway

Here is a step-by-step guide on how we install an asphalt driveway:
Step 1: Planning
Plan your driveway. During the free estimate, we can go through your layout plans, discuss any design changes, and talk about drainage, curbing and similar. This will be our working plan for the installation of your asphalt driveway.
Step 3: Excavating
Excavate the area. Dig about 7-10 inches deep to allow for a new base foundation and the asphalt layers that will go on top. The depth may vary depending on your location's frost line, the sub-base condition and any level requirements.
Step 4: Grading
Grade the area. Ensure the surface slopes away from any buildings to facilitate water drainage. This is key to any movement on the water table underneath the driveway, it will help to ensure long term stability.
Step 5: Stone Base
Install a stone base. Add enough base stone to fill about 4-5 inches. This layer provides a sturdy base for the asphalt.
Step 6: Compacting
Compact the stone base. Compact the base stone with a vibrating machine roller until firm and level.
Step 7: Asphalt Application
Apply the asphalt. Lay enough asphalt to fill about 2-3 inches. During this stage, we will be using either a large machine (barber greene), which will lay the asphalt or on smaller areas, we will lay it by hand and will set the levels on it to direct the surface water.
Step 8: Compacting Asphalt
Compact the asphalt. Using the sit in roller, we will machine roll and vibrate compact the top surface until its locked firm in place.
Step 9: Curing
Let it cure. Allow the asphalt to cure for at least 24 hours before using the driveway. Avoid walking or driving on it during this time.
